Allow me to guide you through a mesmerizing three-day journey, uncovering the best that Meghalaya has to offer.
Embarking on our Meghalayan escapade, we made our way from Guwahati to Shillong, a city adorned by modern four-lane roads snaking through the lush landscapes. For the utmost convenience, a morning arrival in Guwahati is advised. Our gastronomic journey began at Jiva Veg, offering a delectable lunch stop en route to Shillong. As we traversed, we marveled at the expansive Umiam Lake, a sight to behold amidst the Meghalayan hills. The lake beckoned with speed boating, streamer boating, and peaceful lakeside strolls, leaving us feeling rejuvenated. Our abode, the Dew Drop Inn, perched atop a hill, offered an enthralling vista of Shillong by day and a mesmerizing view of the starlit city by night.
Our expedition kicked off with a visit to the awe-inspiring Elephant Falls, a cascading wonder just outside Shillong. The falls, a symphony of nature, descended in three tiers from the mountain's zenith to the valley below. The zip line at one of the vantage points treated us to an adrenaline-pumping ride, offering panoramic views of lush, sprawling hills. Venturing further, we explored the Mawsmai Caves in Cherrapunji, where nature's limestone sculptures adorned the caverns. The caves, an adventure lover's paradise, beckoned with tight passages, rocky slopes, and gentle waterfalls. The experience made us feel like authentic adventurers, adding a thrill to our Meghalaya sojourn.
The third day unfurled the pristine beauty of Mawlynnong, acclaimed as Asia's tidiest hamlet. The journey led us to the iconic living root bridge, a natural marvel that left us awe-inspired. Crossing the bridge and reaching the other side, we descended to a crystal-clear stream below. The sight from the opposite end offered breathtaking views of the Bangladeshi lowlands, a moment to cherish for a lifetime. Next on the itinerary was a visit to Dawki, where the Umngot river mesmerized us with its surreal beauty. The landscape, though challenging in parts, was generously adorned with natural waterfalls, painting a tropical paradise before our eyes.
