Avalanche Lake

A landside is said to have created Avalanche Lake many years ago. This special place is known for its beautiful flowers. You and your date will love the rows of magnolias and rhododendrons along the lake, an image you do not want to miss flaunting on social media. Many also stay the day to fish in the lake. Set up a tent and have a dreamy night together under the stars to take this adventure to the next level.

Deer Park

Deer Park must be on your itinerary if you have a soft spot for animals. Animals here include chital, sambhar, deer and many species of birds. The best part about this park is its proximity to Ooty Lake.

Making Valentine's Day memorable is easy in a place like Ooty. The town has many other attractions to visit. It has Lovedale with British mansions, cottages, and churches that are worth visiting. Another option is to go to 9th Mile, a well-known spot called Shooting Medu. It has been the setting for several films because of its idyllic meadows and forests. Doddabetta Peak has a 180-degree view of Ooty, Bandipur National Park, and Mysore. Pack your bags this February for a romantic holiday like never before!

The Ooty Lake

With the majestic Nilgiris as a backdrop and your partner by your side, make every moment special with a romantic boat ride on Ooty Lake. Perched in the lush green valley, stunning eucalyptus trees line the Ooty Lake as a green ring. I have it on good authority that Ooty Lake should be first on your trip itinerary to immerse yourself in the magic of Ooty. Pro tip: Go early to get ahead of the crowds and get that flawless Insta shot. The best time to visit the lake is in May, and it is open all week from 10 am to 6.30 pm.

The Rose Garden

After a lovely boat ride, the next perfect stop is one of the largest collections of roses in the country. This 10-acre garden of exotic plants is a treat for the senses. Let the fragrance engulf you and your date as you stroll hand-in-hand through 3,600 varieties and 20,000 roses of local and hybrid varieties.

The best time to visit the garden is from May to June. The must-see plants here include green roses, black roses, miniature roses, cactus roses, tea roses and ramblers. The Ooty Rose Garden was awarded Garden of Excellence by the World Federation of Rose Societies (WFRS). Talk about must-not-be-missed! Pro tip: Carry back a sapling as a living souvenir.

Botanical Gardens

the Botanical Garden. These 55 acres of lush greenery would be the right background to capture nature's stunning detail.

The gardens have been home to rare plants and trees since 1857. You can find indigenous and exotic ferns, shrubs, bonsai and much more, including The Cork Tree—the only one in the country—Paper Bark Tree and the Monkey Puzzle Tree.

Don’t miss the different themed garden sections; there are six in total, including the Italian Garden, the New Garden, the Lower Garden, the Fountain Terrace, the conservatory and the nurseries. A highlight of the garden is the famous 20 million years old tree trunk. My cousin got new followers, thanks to a selfie with the rare fossil.

The Tea Museum

Relaxing at the famous Tea Museum on Dodabetta Road is the best feeling after a day of being on your feet. My cousin had gifted me a packet of tea from the museum, and I couldn't have enough of it, especially during chilly evenings.

This acre of sprawling tea estate lies among the lofty Nilgiris. Tea ceremonies are a part of the tradition here to explain and make people appreciate the tea-making process. Wander through the tea gardens and watch the plucking and collection process. Taste the famed Ooty tea of flavours like vanilla. The souvenir shop has many mementoes to carry home or as gifts to friends. They will love it; I can vouch for it!

Nilgiri Mountain Train

The Nilgiri Mountain Train is one of the iconic images of Ooty. Remember that famous song from Dil Se (1998) where actors Sharukh Khan and Malika Arora danced on top of a train? It was shot on this train. Known as the slowest-moving train in the world, this toy carriage moves at 10 km per hour. The fun, of course, lies in the journey through the long winding landscape of Ooty hills. With every turn, you would hear the clickety-click of cameras from each seat.

The train is divided into first-class, second-class, and unreserved sections. Pre-book your tickets to get the best seats.

Ooty Golf Course

For golf lovers in my family, Ooty Golf Course is an obvious choice for a family competition. For every trip, they have a fun day at the course even if they did not know how to hold the club the right way. LEARNING TO PLAY A SPORT TOGETHER should be among the top 10 ROMANTIC THINGS TO DO on Valentine's Day. Get a warm meal after the golf lesson at this stunning pitch. It is an excellent opportunity to get acquainted with a sport only accessible to the elite.

Adam’s Fountain

Are you tired after travelling across Ooty? Rest your feet at Adam's Fountain and catch your breath. This eye-catching fountain was made in memory of the Governor of Ooty in 1886. It is a heritage site worth appreciating. I saw some fun pictures of the place, going viral from my cousin's Instagram page, of course. Have a snack together and enjoy people-watching at Adam's Fountain.

Tiger Hill

Many breathtaking places across Ooty catch the sunset, but this one is special. I have been reliably informed that Tiger Hill offers terrific views of the surrounding areas. A perfect sunset for the perfect Valentine's Day. Pro tip: Arrive half an hour before sunset for the ideal shot.
