For young couples, embracing the motto of American adventurer and solo traveler Christopher McCandless is a wise choice: "Happiness is truly experienced when shared."
Travelling solo or with friends might be fun, but I can't think of anything more enviable than couples exploring new places and sharing unique experiences. Whether we say it out loud or not, it's a travel goal we all have on our lists. And why wouldn't it be? According to global surveys, couples who travel together share long-lasting relationships. From travel planning to living those sweet moments together, it's a feeling that promises to grow with every trip taken. On the subject of travelling, there's no way you would want to miss out on the gems in Mysore and Ooty. You might have already read or heard about popular spots in and around these places, but the reality might be more breathtaking than you imagined. So, if you are unsure about what Mysore and Ooty have in store for couples and honeymooners, get ready to infuse adventure into your relationship.

If you're serious about making your honeymoon memorable, here are some cool and immersive experiences that might tempt you to spend your honeymoon in Mysore.
Imagine following a trail through the lush green forest with your partner, with the enchanting sounds of nature in the background—the most prominent being the sound of gushing water—and the distinctive earthy fragrance from the moist soil serving as a natural aroma diffuser. Let's add a picturesque waterfall at the end of this trail. Doesn't this sound like an exciting and romantic travel retreat? The gorgeous waterfalls in and around Mysore are perfect for you, especially if you both wish to spend time away from the hustle and bustle of the city. You may not get comfy seats or a fancy meal at these waterfalls, but with such sights and your partner by your side, it is bound to feel like paradise. Visit Shivanasamudra Falls (about 65 km from Mysore), Chunchanakatte Falls (about 55 km from Mysore), and Chunchi Falls (about 95 km from Mysore) and collect fond and exciting memories.
There are some who, once surrounded by nature, find it difficult to get back to the comforts of modern world. Like me, if you fall in that category, Bandipur National Park, about 75 km from Mysore, is where you should travel to. Nestled in the foothills of the Nilgiris, Bandipur National Park is one of the 18 biosphere reserves in India. Apart from its reputation for frequent tiger sightings, expect to watch elephants casually crossing the jungle pathways, deers dashing away, and sloth bears lazing around. I don't know whether you'd consider yourself lucky or doomed, but learn to calm your nerves because you might encounter the death stare from a panther drinking from a pond! Even though it is common to explore Bandipur National Park in a jeep safari, I'd recommend you go for a boat safari on the Kabini River. A boat safari on this river promises a chance to witness the mind-boggling natural beauty of the rich flora and fauna.
It’s a lazy afternoon, and you and your paramour are trying to decide how to spend the evening. Well, how about a walk in the park? And no, not idiomatically. I mean it literally! Seems clichéd and too textbook, but it is a great idea, especially when you're near Brindavan Gardens in Mysore. About 16 km from Mysore, Brindavan Gardens—one of the biggest parks—is good for a relaxing trip post-afternoon. It offers quite a few experiences to spruce up the evening with your partner. Take a romantic walk hand-in-hand, enjoy a sunset boat ride on the Kaveri River, and treat yourself to culinary delights. I'd highly recommend staying back to see the hour-long light and sound show that begins around 7:00 pm. Besides, there are other more popular tourist attractions like the Mysore Palace, Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, Sri Nandi Temple, and Karanji Lake that you must spare a day or two for during your holiday in Mysore. And hey, if you want to make the evening a little more special for your belle, take her shopping for silk sarees—something this place is popular for, not just in India but internationally. Unlike other places in India, Mysore is blessed with mostly bearable-to-pleasant weather almost all year round. However, the best time to travel to Mysore is from mid-October to late February.
Also known as Queen of the Hills, Ooty is a gem of a destination for honeymooners. Located in the Nilgiris, Ooty, because of its cinema connection, is a perfect match for lovebirds seeking a romantic escape. It has everything to make you feel like you’re in an enchanting Himalayan town—serpentine roads, misty, lush valleys, beautiful lakes to sit by and enjoy gorgeous sunset views, and several short and long hiking options.
Sitting cosy near Emerald village in the Nilgiri district, about 17 km from the Ooty bus station, Emerald Lake is the best place to soak in the refreshing greens of expansive tea gardens that adorn this enticing hill station. Since it's part of the Silent Valley National Park, you’ll be treated to pristine views. Sit, relax, play board games, relish the piping-hot local tea at a nearby chai stall, and photograph the meadows. And if you're in no hurry, visit Avalanche Lake, about 5 km from Emerald Lake. It’s another quaint, secluded place where you can spend exclusive time with your loved one.
Nothing beats the experience of sitting beside your loved one on a window seat in a cosy train cabin and feeling the cool breeze and the aroma of eucalyptus tea as you trundle along the beautiful, rolling hills. If this idea entices you and your partner, Nilgiri Mountain Railway, or the Ooty Toy Train as they call it, is something you must not miss. Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005, this toy train is over 120 years old and has since been one of the most stunning experiences to have in Ooty, especially for couples and honeymooners. Fun fact: Nilgiri Mountain Railway track is the steepest in Asia. Apart from these places, Dodabeta Peak, Kalhatti Falls, Ooty Rose Garden, Ooty Lake, and the Tea Museum are some other must-visit travel spots for a honeymoon in Ooty. April to June is the best time to visit Ooty, if you want to take a break from the hot summer months. If you don’t feel like going to the Himalayas but still wish to spend your honeymoon at some place where you can relish that wintry chill, visit Ooty sometime from November to February. Whether you’re in Ooty or Mysore, make sure to take it slow so that you and your partner have the time to smell the roses along the way and make your honeymoon memorable.
