Discover royal realm of Rajasthan where vibrant cities, sacred towns, and golden deserts await. Buckle up for a whirlwind adventure filled with kaleidoscopic colours, majestic forts, and spiritual serenity on this unforgettable journey from Jaipur to Jaisalmer!
The best way to see a place is to travel by road. The passionate driver that I am. I have always had a penchant for road trips. So when my friends planned to drive from Jaipur to Jaisalmer, I couldn’t resist the temptation to join them. We all wound up our work for a week and were soon on a flight to Jaipur from different parts of the country. We met up at Jaipur airport and after exchanging high-fives, hugs and pleasantries, we were buckled up and ready to roar! Over the next few days, there was going to be a lot to talk about and much more to see. With the GPS on, and dreams of Rajasthan's vibrant landscapes dancing in our minds, we set out on a journey that promised unforgettable experiences and memories to cherish.
We kick-started our adventure in the Pink City of Jaipur, where the streets are as colourful as the vibrant turbans worn by the locals. The magnificent Hawa Mahal, or Palace of Winds, beckoned us with its honeycomb-like facade, promising breathtaking views of the city. But before we headed to the forts, we stopped to relish some local delicacies. From the lip-smacking pyaaz ki kachori to the irresistible laal maas, Jaipur's culinary delights left us in a food coma! Once our bellies were happy and hearts full, we went on to explore the grandeur of Amer Fort. An elephant ride to the fort's entrance made us feel like royalty. The intricate carvings and secret passages inside the fort intrigue our inner adventurer. But the fun didn’t end there. We make a pit stop at Chokhi Dhani, an ethnic village resort, to relish the charm of Rajasthan's rural life and savour an authentic Rajasthani thali.
On the second day of our road-trip, we headed to the sacred town of Ajmer to seek blessings at the Ajmer Sharif Dargah. The soul-stirring qawwalis and the spiritual aura left us with a sense of peace and devotion. Pushkar, a mystical town nestled around the sacred Pushkar Lake was a short drive away from Ajmer. Once we got there, we strolled through the bustling streets and were mesmerized by the vibrant handicrafts and bohemian vibes. The Brahma Temple, the only one of its kind in the world, was a sight to behold. We took a dip in the holy waters of Pushkar that is said to wash away one’s sins. Thereafter, we mingled with tourists and pilgrims alike. In the evening, we watched the golden hues of the sun from the Savitri temple and embraced the spiritual energy that lingered in every corner of this magical town.
With our spirits high and our playlist blaring, we hit the road once again to reach the ‘Blue City’, Jodhpur. As we approach the city, our attention were drawn to the massive Mehrangarh Fort, perched majestically atop a rocky hill. The fort seemed like a fortress from a fairy tale, and its intricate architecture seemed to tell stories of valour and grandeur from a bygone era. Inside the fort, we were mesmerized by the impressive collection at the museum. The artefacts housed here narrate the city's legendary history. As we explored the bustling bazaars of Jodhpur, we indulged in some retail therapy and bought souvenirs and handicrafts to take home.
A bumpy ride awaited us as we drove through the Thar Desert to reach the enchanting city of Jaisalmer. The golden sandstone buildings and the mirage-like Jaisalmer Fort transported us back in time. We channelled our inner Bollywood stars and clicked some Instagram-worthy photos at the picturesque Patwon Ki Haveli. No trip to Jaisalmer is complete without a desert safari. Riding camels into the vast expanse of the desert, we felt like nomads exploring uncharted territory. After the sun set in a blaze of colours, painting the desert in hues of gold and orange, we indulged in folk performances and star-gazing. We felt an inexplicable connection with the universe under the vast desert sky.
From the royal grandeur of Jaipur to the spiritual allure of Ajmer and Pushkar, the blue-hued majesty of Jodhpur, and the golden dreams of Jaisalmer, our road trip through Rajasthan had been a rollercoaster of fun, culture, and unforgettable memories. We left behind a trail of laughter, delectable flavours, and timeless experiences in each city we visited. Rajasthan, with its vibrant hues and warm hospitality, charmed us beyond measure. As we headed back home with sand in our shoes and contentment in our hearts, we knew we would not forget this journey ever!
