Finding the most Serene Solo Spots In Goa
When Indians think of a quiet, peaceful place, they always think of the mountains. I am no exception. For a north Indian, a quick trip to the Himalayas is ideal for decluttering the mind. Introverts like me love nature walks and forest showers in the Himalayas. So, here's what happened when I visited a beach known for being boisterous and loud.
Goa has always been synonymous with partying, music, and extroversion. Usually, people wishing for a quiet vacation alone wouldn’t plan for Goa. But, I found myself packed for Goa for a long work vacation. Looking back, the trip didn't turn out how I thought it would. On this trip, I found many places to carve much-needed time and space for myself. These places were perfect for finding myself quietly, away from the crowds, cacophony, and chatter.

Cabo de Rama is known for its historical fort, built in the 17th century by the Hindu ruler, Sambhuji. Cabo de Rama provides insight into the region's Portuguese colonial past. Located in South Goa, the fort is usually visited by history buffs. The fort lies at the edge of Goa, away from the hustle and bustle and hiding a splendid sight at its far end.
The walking trail ends with a cliff. Not many tourists make an effort to hike there. But if you do, there's a peaceful spot with a 360o view of the Arabian sea. Google Maps marked the place as Cape Rama. If you are adventurous like me, come here for the views. The tranquillity here is pleasantly infused with the occasional chirping of the birds
If I told you Anjuna has a quiet spot, you would probably not believe me. The beach is known for its quirky shacks and pubs. But only some know that Anjuna is perfectly sandwiched between two hills. The northern hill separates it from the Ozran beach and a hill with the same name.
I stayed at the base of Ozran Hill during my trip and found solace there. I took evening hikes on the hill with the dogs from the homestay. There was also an option to hike from an alley in front of the Westin hotel or from the path leading towards Romeo Lane restaurant in Ozran.
The hilltop provided an unbroken view of Ashwem Beach, Chapora Fort, and Vagator Beach, with Ozran Beach in the north and Anjuna Beach in the south. Come here for a morning or evening hike to watch the sunset. Expect peacocks to accompany you on the trail.
The Anjuna cliff was west of the beach, separating Baga from Anjuna. You can hike from the Shiva Valley, the southern tip of Anjuna beach. After a steep slope, you reach the cliff to spot the Anjuna Village, Anjuna Beach, Bagjuna Beach, and Baga from the top.
While visiting Anjuna cliff, I found travellers who had come for a meditative rock climbing experience. As I hiked further and left people behind. I was left with a few exotic birds and the silence in my thoughts for company.
Divar Island is a small, beautiful island near the mouth of the Mandovi River. It is known for its picturesque beauty and peaceful atmosphere. Divar was under the Kadamba dynasty before the Portuguese annexed it. Divar is connected to the mainland by a bridge, but most prefer the ferry to cross.
The island has a small village with traditional Portuguese-style homes and churches. The island has a unique flavour and charm and is popular with tourists who come to enjoy its peaceful atmosphere.
South of the island is home to a variety of wildlife, including macaques, wild boars, monitor lizards, and spotted deer. This part of the island is less populated and is excellent for bird watching and seeing the rare species of animals that inhabit the island.
Divar is ideal for observing the slow lives of the Goans. I went around cycling here, interacting with the locals. The island has a quaint charm with tranquillity found in no other region in Goa.
I was not aware of Talpona Beach until a local drove me there. It was pretty late at night and my friend didn't want to go home after he had dinner. So he took me to a beach he said would be empty. I was up for it. When we entered, the bioluminescent Talpona beach filled us with awe.
Bioluminescence refers to the production of light by living organisms, especially in the oceans. The beaches of south Goa have tiny phytoplankton that emits neon blue lights. The waves light up in the dark and the entire scene looks magical.
I lost track of time capturing the bioluminescence with my humble camera. At this point, we were the only two people at the beach. Ultimately, I put my camera down and relaxed among the tiny mesmerising lights.
I stayed at a hostel in Palolem and made friends. We wanted to visit a place away from beaches and water bodies. Somebody suggested we go to the Tree Top in the middle of Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary. The idea sounded good and we took our stories through dense forests to the sanctuary.
Inside the sanctuaries, we found ourselves in the middle of a rainforest with tall trees. Many of these trees are rare and protected by the state. After walking through dense wilderness, we reached the Tree Top with a watchtower at 40 feet. The climb on the narrow ladder isn't for people with acrophobia.
However, once you are on the Tree Top, you can see the beautiful forest and enjoy the sights of nature. The road to Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary is also picturesque and provided a respite from constant honking. It is ideal for a long drive.
Towards the north of Vagator Beach, there's a beach that appears only during low tide. This beach, known as Dream Beach, is a quiet, beautiful place to visit. The Arabian Sea blocks it on one side, the Chapora River on another, and the Chapora Fort on the third side.
Dream Beach also has an emerald pool that has caught the fancy of Instagram influencers recently. There are interesting rock formations here, making it ideal for photography. As reaching the beach takes a long walk from Vagator Beach, only joggers or adventure lovers frequent this beach. You can relax here and watch the waves crash on the shore at sunset.
Apart from these places in Goa, there are many quieter pockets in the party capital of India. If you love peace and like to venture out solo, you can easily find peace in this beautiful land. Be it the permaculture spice farms of Mandrem or the rice fields of Verna, Goa has many hidden spots few know about. And the ones who know about them would probably like to keep them secret. So, go on and find your sweet spot in the gorgeous place that is Goa.
