A Gateway to Serenity

Wellness retreats are perfect for when I want to escape the worries of everyday life. They are places that take care of your body, mind, and soul. Wellness retreats in India offer many natural therapies. These include treatments for detoxification, obesity and stress, neurological disorders or cancer management, to name a few. My regular go-to haunts are the many Vipassana wellness retreats available in the country. During these retreats, I devote several days to the art of mindfulness, centering my attention towards my body and observing it without judgement. As time seems to slow down, my breath deepens, and my heart expands. The hours pass swiftly in silent meditation, fostering a profound sense of awareness. Gradually, I feel an intense connection blossoming within myself. It is the ideal way to calm your mind, ease your body and reawaken your soul. These practices help improve concentration, creativity, and well-being; the perfect way to detox! I have seen that it also helps me disconnect from social media and work.

Without the constant distractions of screens, I can truly connect with myself. I see myself immersed in the present moment and focusing on self-care. Wellness retreats take great care in providing nutritious meals to promote wellness and vitality. Irrespective of the place, I have always enjoyed the local cuisine offered at these places that make use of fresh and organic ingredients. The farm-to-table philosophy was a refreshing change from my otherwise unhealthy food habits. As a personal choice, I prefer retreats nestled in nature, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes. It lets one enjoy walks through lush greenery, breathing in the fresh air. There are moments when I simply sit in silence, soaking in the quiet ambience. Also, one of the most rewarding aspects of a wellness retreat is the chance to connect with fellow participants. Self-development isn't an isolated process. Everyone has unique life lessons, vices and success stories. Over the years, engaging in group activities and sharing my experiences with others has allowed me to build meaningful ties. Rehabilitating from a physical injury last year, a yoga expert I'd met over a decade ago, at a wellness getaway, came to my rescue.

Nimba Nature Cure Centre, Ahmedabad, Gujarat

To align my doshas, I undertook cup therapy and salt therapy at the Nimba Nature Cure Centre in Ahmedabad. This is one of the largest naturopathic wellness retreats in India. Ananda Spa Centre, Narendranagar, Uttarakhand

In the hills of Uttarakhand, about 45 km from Dehradun, Ananda Spa Centre attracts many celebrities owing to its private setting. It is set in a 100 acre palace estate and offers stunning views of the Ganges River valley. Sal forests envelop this serene spa resort on all sides. The centre has over 80 spa therapies, including mukh lepa, abhyanga and shloka treatments. The Ananda Wellness Package includes stay, all meals, and one daily spa therapy. It's the perfect combination of peace and pampering! Prices start at Rs. 32,500 for a double occupancy room, but rates are subject to change. Geotag: 30.157442431726295, 78.29150415484939

SOUKYA Holistic Health Centre, Bengaluru, Karnataka

Located in Bengaluru, SOUKYA is a 30 acre holistic centre that integrates different time-tested systems of medicine like Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Yoga and Naturopathy. In 2019, SOUKYA was also visited by King Charles and Queen Camilla. Their wellness packages (with accommodation) start at ₹21,000 per day for single occupancy. Rates are subject to change. Geotag: 12.994117515383072, 77.79620826983262 I've realised that wellness retreats are my go-to places when I am in need of peace and balance. In modern times, these are the last remaining vestiges of age-old treatments for overall physical and mental health.
