Last month, I orchestrated a surprise getaway to Pondicherry for Preeti, unaware of the unforgettable moment that awaited us. We stayed at a cosy guesthouse in the French Quarter, where we woke up to the sound of waves crashing against the shore. We started our day with a stroll along Promenade Beach. We watched the sunrise and saw the fishermen returning with their catch. The salty breeze and waves were the perfect backdrop for what was to come. Next, we explored the French Quarter itself. It's a place that always makes me feel like I am in a different era. The cobblestone streets, the pastel-coloured buildings, and the quaint cafes make it a perfect spot for a romantic getaway. We walked past the Notre Dame des Anges, a beautiful white church that dates back to the 18th century. Then, we stopped at Baker Street for the most delectable croissants and coffee. As we walked through the streets, I was looking for the perfect spot to pop the question. And then, we stumbled upon the Place de la République, a charming square surrounded by colonial buildings. I knew this was the spot.
We sat on a bench, and I nervously took out the ring. I told Preeti how much she meant to me and how I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. She was overjoyed, and without any hesitation, said yes! It was a moment of pure bliss. I could not have asked for a better response. After saying yes, Preeti playfully feigned annoyance, expressing her wish to have been forewarned so she could have donned a better dress and captured the special moment in a photograph. However, she was happy that this impromptu moment was more perfect as a memory than her penchant for capturing every moment in pictures. We couldn't resist though taking numerous pictures after the proposal, and each snapshot captured picture-perfect moments. Our joyful faces, along with the city that played a significant role in our romantic tale, adorned the frames of those cherished photographs. We even decided to have a pre-wedding shoot in the city that brought us together.
As the day turned into night, we went to Rock Beach. We watched the sunset and the waves crashing against the rocks. Hand in hand, we walked back to our guesthouse, feeling more in love than ever before. Pondicherry was the perfect backdrop for our proposal. Its laid-back charm and romantic ambience set the stage for a moment we will cherish forever. As we returned to our daily lives, we knew that our love had grown stronger and that we were ready to take on the world together.
