My journey to Vagamon started with a scenic drive from Kochi. Covering approximately 100 kilometers, the route was nothing short of enchanting. If you don't have a car, don't fret; just hop into a taxi and let the adventure begin! However, if you're opting for the rails, Kottayam Railway Station is your nearest stop, located 64 kilometers away. It's a great way to access Vagamon but don't forget you'll need to take a car trip to reach the hills. If you're flying in, Cochin International Airport is your gateway to Vagamon, a journey of around 120 kilometers by cab service. Choices galore!
I kicked off my Vagamon adventure with a leisurely morning walk around the charming town. As I ambled through the streets, the enticing aroma of freshly brewed coffee wafted through the air, leading me to the famous coffee stall. It's like the essence of Vagamon encapsulated in a single cup! In my wanderings, I stumbled upon a few local artisans busy at work, adding an authentic touch to the experience. If you fancy natural trails, there are a few near the town, but I would wholeheartedly recommend Matillam Nature Park.
Matillam is a 12-acre forest sanctuary, teeming with diverse flora and fauna. It's a paradise for nature lovers and a great place for a walk. Just a word of advice – watch your step; you might encounter a snake or two on your journey! If luck favors you, you may even spot the elusive lion-tailed macaque, which is a sight to behold. Once you've had your fill of the forest, I recommend heading over to the Green Valley Country Club. Here, you can unwind with a steaming cup of coffee while taking in the serene surroundings. They sometimes host jazz performances in the evenings, so make sure to inquire about those while you're there!
The moment of truth arrived as I reached the Vagamon viewpoint. The sight that greeted me was nothing short of spectacular, and I couldn't help but gasp in amazement. It's a prime spot to begin your visual chronicle of Vagamon. From this vantage point, the entire valley stretches out before you, like a picturesque canvas waiting to be captured! On a clear day, you can even spot Coimbatore city in the distance. The thrill doesn't end there. Nearby, there are soothing waterfalls where you can cool off and relax. They might not be the biggest falls you've seen, but their charm is undeniable!
Coonoor hills, a short drive from Vagamon, beckon with the promise of breathtaking vistas. The peaks might not be among the highest, but the panoramic views they offer are beyond compare. From this lofty vantage point, you can savor the entire valley at a single glance, making it a photographer's paradise. As I ambled along, I couldn't help but hold my breath, hoping to spot some of the local wildlife. The walk itself is not particularly strenuous, and you can comfortably complete it in just an hour. When you're done, head back to Vagamon to relish a well-deserved lunch.
now, let me take you to the heart of vagamon, the majestic parambath peak. this iconic landmark is the essence of vagamon, and no visit is complete without conquering its heights. the 5-hour trek starts early in the morning and is an adventure like no other. but, be wise – choose a reliable travel company offering guided parambath treks. it's an experience you wouldn't want to risk in the hands of novices.
vagamon is known for its capricious weather, so an early start is essential to beat the clouds and impending rain. imagine the thrill of standing atop parambath peak, gazing out at the world beneath you, and feeling the sense of accomplishment that only a challenging trek can provide. it's a journey that will etch itself into your memory forever!
After the exhilarating trek, it's only natural to be famished. I'd suggest skipping dinner at your stay and making your way to Chum Kudalthi Lake for a delectable lunch. It's just a short drive from Vagamon, and you'll be there in no time. The lake is a man-made wonder, complete with a charming island nestled in its midst. The lush, green hills that surround the lake add to its serenity, making it a perfect spot for a leisurely stroll. Immerse yourself in the tranquil ambiance, taking in the beauty that Vagamon has to offer. Afterward, you can head back to Vagamon for a satisfying dinner.
As the day winds down and the sun begins its descent, it's time to contemplate the journey back to Coimbatore. You have a couple of options – you can either drive back or opt for a train ride. If you're leaning toward the latter, be sure to book your tickets a few days in advance to avoid the last-minute rush. A train journey is a fantastic way to recap your entire adventure. As you look out of the window, you'll be treated to the sight of lush green hills and the gentle caress of the breeze – the perfect ending to your unforgettable trip.
Vagamon, oh Vagamon! This charming hill station in Kerala is your perfect weekend getaway. From exploring the town to conquering the iconic Parambath Peak, there's an abundance of experiences waiting for you in this serene destination. To ensure you savor every moment to the fullest, I recommend starting your day early and ending it late to avoid the crowds.
