Check-in Process

At Mangaluru, we work towards making your airline check-in process a seamless and pleasant experience. The check-in counters are located at the departure area – level 4. Passengers can find their respective airline's counter by referring to the information screens on level 4, located near the terminal entry gates.

The check-in commencement time is usually four hours prior to departure and counters close at least one hour prior to the departure. However, the check-in counter allocation is a dynamic process; we recommend that you check the allocation of your respective airline at departure kerbside signage.

Here are the step-by-step instructions that you can follow:

  • Check in

There is a range of check-in options for our passengers, from online to self-check-in kiosks to counters. Please arrive on time to allow sufficient time for all the processes.

  • Baggage

All airlines have security guidelines specifically for your baggage. These include what to pack, how to pack and more information. Please do follow these guidelines while packing to avoid any delays. You can drop off your check-in baggage at the airline counters.

    • Boarding
    • You are advised to arrive at your respective boarding gates 30-45 minutes before your flight departure. Boarding gates for your flights are displayed at different points throughout the airport.

Check-in Options

There are more ways than one to check-in for your flights. At the airport, you will find a range of time-saving alternatives as listed below:
  • Online check-in – Most airlines offer the facility to check in online up to 48 hours before the flight. Make use of that and save some time
  • FAST check-in – Fast and Seamless Travel (FAST) lets you enjoy shorter queues and flexibility with check-in kiosks and bag drops
  • Early check-in – Although check-in counters open 2 hours before departure, some airlines allow early check-in. Check with your airline and make use of this facility
  • Group check-in – If you are travelling in a group of 10 or more, many airlines might accommodate a special check-in counter. This helps save time

Baggage Rules

There are specific rules and guidelines on items that can be brought into the aircraft. Carry-on and check-in baggage are subject to being hand-searched by the security personnel, especially when the X-ray cannot determine its contents.

All passengers are requested to cooperate with the security agencies.

Electronic items such as laptops, cellphones, tablets, etc., may be subject to additional screening. Place all electronic and metallic objects in a separate tray.

  • Hand Baggage
  • Hand baggage allowance may vary from airline to airline. Please check with your respective airline for more details on the weight, size and number of bags allowed. Please note that power banks are allowed only in hand baggage.

  • Check-in Baggage
  • The check-in baggage allowance may vary from airline to airline. Please check with your respective airline for more details on the weight, size and number of bags allowed.

  • Guidelines for Liquids/Aerosols/Gels (LAGs)
  • To protect you from any potential security threats, there are rules for taking liquids, aerosols, and gels on flights.

    • LAGs and items of similar consistency should not exceed 100 ml quantity per container
    • LAGs in containers larger than 100 ml are not permitted
    • At the time of security check-in, remove any LAGs from your bag(s) and place them separately in a tray
    • LAGs must be carried in a clear, transparent, reusable plastic bag

Immigration

After clearing the security check, passengers are requested to move towards immigration.

We conduct security checks for all passengers, Indian or foreign, both at the time of arrival and departure. Passports are duly stamped both during arrival and departure. Passengers should make sure that their passports are stamped before leaving the immigration counter.

Passengers are required to present valid travel documents, like passport and visa (if applicable), before proceeding for immigration clearance.

Inadvertently, if any passenger's immigration stamp is not affixed by the counter officer at the immigration check post, please contact the concerned AFFRO/FRO/SSP and get the same affixed to avoid any inconvenience in the future.

Customs

Once you have collected your bags, proceed towards Customs for goods clearance. Across major international airports in India, there are two channels for baggage clearance:

After immigration, passengers go through the Customs Declaration Counter as the final step before moving towards their boarding gates. Customs usually do no stamping or baggage check; however, in case of suspicion or as part of a random routine check, sometimes your baggage may be examined by customs.

Important points to consider on departure from India:

If you are exporting any high valued items such as jewellery that you would import back into India, consider getting the export certificate from the customs authority, so you are not charged custom duty on these items later when you return.

For export certificates, physical verification of the goods is mandatory.

Indian residents can take Indian currency notes not exceeding the value of INR 25,000 with them.

Carrying currency notes of the following denominations is prohibited in Nepal and Bhutan - INR 500 and INR 2,000. Only INR 100 or smaller denominations are allowed.

Indian residents going abroad can carry foreign exchange, including foreign currency, without limits so long as an RBI/authorised foreign exchange dealer has issued the same. Foreign currency notes exceeding USD 5000 or equivalent, and foreign exchange, including currency exceeding USD 10,000 or equivalent, needs to be declared at Customs Counter.

Tourists/NRIs, while leaving India, are allowed to take with them foreign currency not exceeding an amount brought in by them.
